Basecamp The Crew SPAM Can Mascot

SPAM Can 2

Born/created (we assume) in Austin, MN at the Hormel food processing plant. SPAM-Can 1 came to Crew 61 when purchased with his siblings from a store in Interior, SD. The siblings both became breakfast the next morning and so he became the lucky SPAM Can that managed to make it into numerous pictures for the rest of the trip through Yellowstone.
SPAM Can has been spotted on back country hikes in Yellowstone, whitewater raft trips, and on trails up the Tetons. Also SPAM Can has tried rappelling at Backbone State Park and hiked the trails of Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior. Unfortunately during the Isle Royale trip, SPAM Can 1 suffered what eventually became a terminal injury when his seal was accidently broken. SPAM Can 2 came as a replacement gift with a plastic protective case from Bob Richards (Terry's former roommate) who works for the Hormel corporation. SPAM at Waikiki
SPAM Can's 2 has been through several high adventures. On the way to Utah in 2007 it made a summit (via gondola) at Vail Colorado.  In Utah, SPAM Can was sighted at Delicate Arch and many trails in Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park.  Near Provo, SPAM can made his first official summit of Mt. Timpanogos at approximately 11,750 feet in elevation.  In 2009 SPAM Can made a trip to Hawaii with the Crew Advisor and was spotted on a black sand beach on Maui, the white sand beach of Waikiki on Oahu as well as the summits of Diamond Head crater and Haleakala volcano and a visit to Pearl Harbor.  At times when SPAM Can  is not available, our alternate SPAM can will fill in as shown in many pictures on a recent trip to Boundary Waters Canoe Area in northern Minnesota and Canada.
